Biographies of our Speakers:


 

Mehreen ButtMehreen N. Butt, Esq., J99, Councilor, Town of Wakefield, MA and Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts - Mehreen N. Butt, Esq. is an attorney living in Wakefield, MA. Mehreen was elected to the Wakefield Board of Selectman in April 2017, becoming the first Muslim-American woman elected to a Board in Massachusetts. In April 2018, Wakefield voted to officially change the name to a gender- neutral name and became Wakefield Town Council. Councilor Butt was re-elected in June 2020.  Ms. Butt has over 15 years working in the social justice and public policy fields and on local, state and federal campaigns.  She has worked on health care, poverty, women’s reproductive rights and immigrant and voting reform.  Ms. Butt has worked at Rosie’s Place, Tufts Health Plan and Health Care for All. Currently, she is at Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts.  In these positions, Ms. Butt was responsible for overseeing the policy and legislative agenda of the organizations.  Ms. Butt was also a Researcher for the Joint Committee on Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture at the Massachusetts State House, working for Chairman Frank Smizik (D-Brookline).  Ms. Butt received a J.D. from American University’s Washington College of Law and a B.S. in Biology and English from Tufts University.  In 2019, she received the Women’s Bar Association's Emerging Women Leader Award.  She is also a Board Trustee for MelroseWakefield Health Care, an advisory member of the South Asian Bar Association of Greater Boston and an associate member of the Wakefield Alliance Against Violence (WAAV). Ms. Butt is a member of the New England Muslim Bar Association and an alumnae of both Emerge Massachusetts and the Woman’s Bar Association Women’s Leadership Program.  

Emily KretchmerEmily Kretchmer, Esq., J01, Partner, Krokidas & Bluestein LLP - Emily focuses her practice on regulatory compliance and operational matters affecting health care and human service providers and facilities.  She works with providers across the care continuum including, but not limited to, hospitals, community health centers, clinics, long-term care facilities, and assisted living providers.  Emily also works with continuing retirement communities, substance use disorder facilities, behavioral health providers, home health and hospice agencies, group practices, senior housing, early education programs and other individual providers.  Emily advises her clients on strategic affiliations, mergers and acquisitions, contracts, and tax-exempt bond financings.  Emily also counsels clients on corporate compliance and legislative and general regulatory matters including state and federal regulatory filings, advice and guidance on state licensure requirements, fraud and abuse, health information privacy and security, as well as Medicaid and Medicare.  She is also experienced in conducting overpayment appeals and investigations.  Emily is a member of the Boston Bar Association, Health Law Section, Legislative Committee.  Emily has written and lectured on a wide variety of subjects spanning corporate compliance, Medicare, HIPAA, and health care transactions for several professional and trade organizations including, the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation, Massachusetts Senior Care Association and Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education.  Emily has been named a “Best Lawyer in America” in Health Care Law, by U.S. News & World Report since 2019. Emily has also been named a “Rising Star” in the practice of Health Care Law by Thomson Reuters and Boston Magazine’s New England Super Lawyers since 2012 and is listed in the Super Lawyers Women’s Edition.  She is also a member of Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program’s Emerging Leaders Board.  Emily is a 2001 graduate of Tufts University and a 2006 cum laude graduate of Suffolk University School of Law where she also obtained a concentration with distinction in Health and Biomedical Law.

Emily MahoneyEmily S. Mahoney, Esq., MG13, Counsel, Faber, Daeufer, & Itrato, P.C. - Emily is a Counsel at Faber Daeufer & Itrato PC which is a boutique law firm that provides corporate and transactional counsel to clients in the life sciences and emerging technologies industries. Emily advises both public and private companies at all stages of development on a variety of transactional contracting matters, with a particular focus on clinical trial agreements and related ancillary agreements, manufacturing and supply chain related agreements, vendor services agreements, and SaaS and other software and technology-related agreements.  Prior to her current position, Emily worked for a large consulting company advising pharmaceutical companies on how to develop a robust compliance program. Prior to law school, Emily worked in infectious disease research at Massachusetts General Hospital. Emily received her BA from Washington University in St. Louis and a joint JD/MPH from Northeastern University School of Law and Tufts University School of Medicine.

Suzan-LevinSuzan V. Levin, Esq., J96, Assistant General Counsel Pfizer - Suzan is Assistant General Counsel at Pfizer in Cambridge, MA. Ms. Levin serves as primary counsel to several core research divisions as well as platform technology units. Prior to Pfizer's acquisition of Wyeth, Ms. Levin provided legal support to Wyeth's R&D Division in the areas of research collaborations and technology licensing, in addition to serving as primary legal site support for Wyeth's Massachusetts R&D sites. Previous to her tenure in the pharmaceutical industry, Ms. Levin worked at Goodwin Procter LLP in Boston, MA representing a variety of private and public company clients. Ms. Levin received her BA from Tufts University and a JD from Northeastern University School of Law.
