The observance of the 400th Anniversary of the arrival of the ship Mayflower has been the topic of many events in the past year, with a definite focus on Plymouth and surroundings. Yet, a sometimes neglected topic is the vital role that Cape Cod played throughout the first century of the Plimoth Colony.  The Zoom webinar, given by Dr. David S. Martin, will highlight some lesser-known events, some of which might have changed the history of early America. Topics discussed will include:

  • How the center of the Plimoth Colony almost ended up on Cape Cod, instead of at Plymouth

  • The Bourne trading post on Cape Cod as a center of economic activity for the whole Colony

  • Explorations of Cape Cod by Plymouth colonists

  • Why some Plymouth colonists chose to re-settle on Cape Cod

  • A Cape Cod rescue of a Plymouth Colony child

  • The rescue of a shipwrecked ship in Orleans by colonists from Plymouth

  • How the colonists may have set the boundaries for the first Cape Cod towns

  • Correcting misconceptions about the Wampanoag and colonists interactions

       -- and more

Plan also to share your own stories about Cape Cod in the 17th century!
